Not every idea is meant to last

Dear Creativity,

Last night I had an amazing meal filled with tasty bites that delighted all my senses. You were there through the smells of the dishes, the symphony of spices that danced on my tongue, the colors that dazzled my eyes, the touch of the textured glasses, and even in the sounds of cymbals from the belly dancer who entertained us as we ate.

It was in my lavender lemon drop that I was reminded summer was nearing its end and fall was about to begin. In the seasonal idea cycle I’ve been designing, summer is the season for playing with ideas — testing, experimenting, seeing what sparks.

And as I looked at the pink-hued cocktail, crowned with a flower-adorned lemon slice and the texture of the sugar rim, I thought of all the experiments this summer has held: a new version of my signature workshop, a first-time incubator collaboration with the Privacy Exchange, and the upcoming Festival for Ideas at the end of the month.

There will be so much to harvest this fall. Some things will move forward, others will stay behind like warm, fleeting delights of summer. And I know you’ll be there with me, helping me choose.

So I’m wondering, Creativity… as the season shifts, how do we know which experiments to harvest and which to savor as memories of play?

Innovatively yours,
Dr. Abigail
